Feedback Analysis Contents Page

My target audience have evaluated each page for me after my rough to help enable I make the perfect magazine specifically targeted at them. This time they were analysing my contents page.

       Positives
  • Neat and well presented
  • Nice font used on the contents page
  • Very Clear
        Improvements

  • Addicted to the mid shot, need to change my shots
  • More colour needed
  • Variety of backgrounds needed on the photos
  • Too much white space- use a bigger font to help fill in the gaps
  • Make descriptions neater
I will take all these comments on board and focus on filling in the spaces and taking new photos to help enable my contents page is at it's full potential.

Feedback Analysis Front Cover

After completing my rough cut I decided to get some feedback from my target audience and their personal opinion on my front cover. They told me what they liked and disliked about it.

          Positives:

  • They liked the name of the magazine, and they thought it was appropriate for my genre.
  • They liked the justifying I used to separate my articles.
  • Background colour was good
  • Good font used for the title of my magazine

    Improvements:
  • More diverse fonts and colours for my stories
  • Add more shapes and details to the magazine to add a personal touch
  • Possibly could do with a bottom feature bar
  • Change the front cover image needs to be cut
  • Image needs to be more centered
  • More articles and features needed
I will take all these comments on board and make my magazine even better focusing specifically on the comments made by my target audience.

Rough Cuts

Today I finished my 3 rough cuts for my front cover, contents page and double page spread. I've found it very stressful but I have enjoyed it. The hardest part so far has to be the photos and Photoshop. Hopefully I will get some feedback to help improve my magazine.

Colours

Today I spent the day thinking about which colour would be appropriate from my music magazine. Especially for my front cover as that is the feature that will instantly grab the audiences attention. I've decided after careful consideration that my colour scheme for the front cover is purple, black and blue. I involved my target audience in this research and set up a survey to enable they are fully involved and agree with my decision. From the conclusion The main colours that my audience like were white, blue, black and purple. Therefore, I am going to take my audience into consideration and use these colours throughout my magazine.

Update

Over the past few days I have been working on meeting the deadline for my rough cuts. So far I have just about finished my contents page and double page spread. I have found it easier than the front cover. I'm finding it difficult to fit the articles around the image it just doesn't look right. I'm having a play around with the articles and I create a bar code today so hopefully that will make it look more professional.

Another Photo shoot

Today I decided it would be best to re take my photos using the artificial light to make it more professional. These are some of the photos I have taken, as you can see they are much better quality than the last ones.

Article Draft 2

Today I decided to update my article making a few changes and adding in some quotes from the artist to make it more personal

From nowhere this girl has come from. One year ago she was a normal girl working in her local café down the
road. Now, she is on the road to becoming an international superstar! Here we interview the amazing singer and song writer Libby. T and discuss how she rose to fame.
So… How’s life at the moment?
Well things are pretty busy at the moment. I’ve been doing so much promotion for my second album, which will be realised next month. I’m so excited for this year. I have a feeling it’s going to be my year.
Do people treat you differently now?
I get noticed everywhere! It’s a strange feeling. Sometimes i’ll just pop round to the corner shop and end not getting back for hours because people want photos and autographs. It will take some getting used to.
“I GET NOTICEED EVERYWHERE”
What does being famous feel like?
It’s ok. I love my fans and would be nothing without them. They are the reason I am here today. My fans have made me famous. I have them all to thank.
How’s the album coming along?
It’s coming along great,  just about finished. I’m so excited to hear what my fans think of it. It took a lot of time and effort but I have loved every minute of creating this wondering album.
Thats great to hear! What inspired you to write this album?
Well ever since I was little I wanted to sing and perform. However my fans are my inspiration. I would be nothing without them. Like nothing at all. They are the reason I am talking to you today. I don’t know where I’d be without them.
“I’D BE NOTHING WITHOUT MY FANS. I LOVE THEM ALL.”
That’s sweet! What’s your favourite song?
In all honesty I love them all. But my personal favourite has to be song number 5 called love is long. It has alot of meaning behind it and was very emotional to write.. Sometime my own lyrics make me cry!
We love the album! Did you ever think you’d make it?
To be honest. No.. never. For me fame doesn’t bother me. I just write music and that’s it.   Performing is my passion I just want to share my music with the world.
That’s great! What are your plans for the rest of the year?
I have such a busy year ahead. I’m planning to go on tour and share my sounds with the world. I can tell it’s going to be a good year for me. I’m just so excited for the future as I know it can only get better. Things are actually going right in my life which is such a surprise. Good things don’t often happen to me. I’m normally really unlucky.
“GOOD THINGS DON’T OFTEN HAPPEN TO ME .”
Wow. What artists do you most compare yourself to?
I’d like to think I am quite original however I love listening to Taylor Swift and Gabriella Aplin. They sing beautiful songs and I love listening to them.  Also I love Adele however who doesn’t love Adele she is great and I’ve met her before. She is just as fab in person! I want to be my own artist though I try not to be like everyone else
We love you. Where do you plan to be in 2 years?
I would love to be on a world tour and possibly creating my new album. I know I will never stop performing for my fans. As long as they want me I will be here. I hope to be performing until I’m old and grey.
Thanks for chatting to us      today.  We loved having you
Aw thanks so much for having me. I really enjoy chatting to you all. I hope to be back here soon and will update you on anything that is happening.

DPS Update

This week I have been working on my double page spread and this is how far I have got. Just about finished inputting my article and then I will focus on the image which is take up an entire page on the left hand side. I enjoyed creating my double page spread as I find it easier than Photoshop and taking images!

Tuesday, 19 March 2013

Photoshop

Today I spent the day photo shopping some of my photos. The first one is a one that could appear in my double page spread however I don't think it shows the artists personality enough as my target audience think she isn't showing off herself that much. I will study the rest of my photos and see what I can do to improve the quality.
This next one is for my contents page, I like this one as it shows her as an artist. For now this one will stay as I like her facial expression and posture and she fits in my style models.
This is another photo that might appear on my contents page. I like their facial expressions as it shows the bands personality as they appear a little different from other bands however the Photoshop might need a bit more work as I feel it could be better quality.
This is another double page spread photo as it's a long shot of the artist. I really like the light in this photo and it makes her face look perfect however I worry that again this photo doesn't show enough of her personality as an artist as my style models do more with the double page spread and like to create an ideology rather than just the artist standing and posing.

Article Draft

This is my draft for my interview article for my double page spread.

From no where this girl has come from. One year ago she was a normal girl working in her local cafe down the road. Now, she is on the road to becoming an international superstar! Here we interview the amazing singer and song writer Libby and ask her how she has rose to fame!

So... hows life at the moment?

Well things are pretty busy at the moment. I've been doing so much promotion for my second album which will be realised later this month.

Wow. Have people started treating you differently?

I get noticed everywhere. It's a strange feeling. It will definitely take some getting used to. I can pop round to the shops and end up not coming back for hours on end.

What is that like?

It's ok. I love my fans and would be nothing without them. They are the reason I am here today. I would do anything for them as I have them all the thank for my success. Honestly, it's so unexpected.

Hows the album coming along?

It's coming along great just about finished it. I'm so excited to hear what my fans think of the album. It took a lot of time and effort but I have loved every minute of creating this wonderful album. I want to share my music with the world.

Thats good to hear! What inspired you to write it?

Well ever since I was little I have wanted to sing. My fans are my inspiration. I would be nothing without them. Like nothing at all. I wish I could say thank you to them all, as every single one of them is great.

You're too cute! Whats your favorite song on the album?

I love them all. But my personal favorite has to be love is long. It has a lot of meaning behind and was very emotional to write. Sometimes my own lyrics make me cry. It has a very personal touch to it and therefore it's extra special!

We love the album! Did you ever think you'd make it?

To be honest no never. For me fame doesn't bother me. I just write music and that's it however it is great that I get to share it with the world.

Thats great! What are your plans for the rest of the year?

I have such a busy year ahead. I'm planning to go on tour and just share my sounds with the world. I just want to travel and perform. What could be better?

What artist do you compare yourself to?

I would like to say that no one is like me however I love the music of Taylor Swift and Gabriella Aplin they are huge inspirations to me. They have beautiful voices and are absolute perfection. Of course there is Adele as well she is a huge inspiration to me. I mean her songs bring me to tears

Where do you see yourself in 2 years?

I see myself performing around the world and hopefully doing another album and just getting myself out there and showing the world my music. All I want to do is sing, singing is my passion and I hope to do that until I am old and grey.

Interview

I spent the day, giving my photos a break and concentrating on my double page spread article. I planned and typed up the majority of it. I will post you soon my draft of my interview style and the questions I asked. I believe I am better at this part as I can write articles and questions however I am struggling with the images and making them suitable for my magazine.

Front Cover Attempt 2

Today I spent the day working on my front cover. I am really struggling with the images I think I may take them again. The light isn't right or how I want it.

Photo Shoot Take 2

I have now retaken my photos. I am finding it so difficult to take my photos as I can never get the lighting right. I will review these and see what they look like. However I really need to sort out my photography skills.

Wednesday, 13 March 2013

Overview

After analysing my photos I think some are suitable for my magazine however I think some are not. I feel my front cover and double page spread need more work as I feel I need to show my emotion and attitude in my double page spread and the front cover one needs to be more focused and in line.

Update

Today I uploaded all my photos to the computer to have a look at them I focused more on the front cover however I found a great photo but I cut her head off! Shall have to re take this as try and to focus better on fitting her into the frame.

Photos

I spent the weekend taking photos for my magazine. I took a range of different shots and shall post you some of the photos I have taken and the ones I'm going to use. Hopefully they look alright on the computer screen! I found it quite difficult taking photos as I find it hard trying to create this "popstar" image. I used a tripod and I found that was good when it came to shaking and it help create a still clear image.

Fonts

Today I spent the day thinking about fonts would fit my front cover and the rest of my magazine. I needed a one that was simple to read but also eye catching and suitable to my genre. I'm going to go for a sans serif font as it provides the modern look I want to create for my magazine.

Saturday, 9 March 2013

Double Page Spread Layout

After completing 2 out of my 3 layouts I thought it would be best to do my final one. I think I want this page to be half image half text as my style models use this technique and I think it would be most effective on the audience.

Friday, 8 March 2013

Contents Page Layout

After completing my front cover layout yesterday, I have now moved on to my contents page. I'm still not sure if I will stick to 4 images on the contents page but personally I like the look of this however I will look at my style models and ask my target audience what they think of the layout.

Thursday, 7 March 2013

Front Page Layout

This is my layout for my front cover, this will keep me get a better idea of where I'm going to place things and how big everything will be. So far I like the layout however I need to study my style models more and perfect it as I don't think I need 2 stories on the front cover but I will have a look and see what I can do. The main focus of this front cover is the image. From my survey I found out 90.9% of my target audience said that "images" is the feature that most attracts you to a front cover therefore I need to make sure I get the image perfect as its the dominant part within my magazine as its going to instantly engage my audience.

Planned Photos

Today I planned out all my 4 photos. I think I'm going to use more than 4 but I planned the first 4 out in detail so I understand what I'm doing and the type of photo I am trying to create.

Plan

Today I focused on planning my time for over the next 3 weeks as I need to make sure I don't waste anytime when it comes to creating my article, therefore I have made a table to help me figure out what I am going to do over the next few weeks. It will keep me organised and efficient.

Character Profile 4

Name: Jonathan Cavanagh
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Music: Mumford and Sons, Biffy Clyro

After doing 3 detailed profiles into female research I thought it would be a good idea to get an insight into males to see if I want my magazine to focus on a specific sex or both. Therefore I asked him to same questions as the girls, just see if his responses were similar or totally different.

1) What music magazines do you normally read?
Not a fan of music magazines I would say I would be them on the very rare occasion but not every week or anything. Not really a fan of magazines.

2) What music genre would you like the read about and why?
I like a mixture of everything it doesn't really bother me just something interesting and eye catching.

3) What do you look for on a front page?
I look at image and the features that are inside the article as I want to know what I am going to read about before I buy the magazine. Furthermore I also look at the colours as it's the first thing I will see when I glance over at the front cover of a magazine.

4) What would make you buy a music magazine?
The image has to be cool and interesting I don't just want a boy or girl standing their posing like it's some sort of fashion shoot I like something different. I like the articles as well I don't like them to be boring and the usual "when is your next album out" I want to learn something from them and interesting fact! Something that only that magazine will know. Most importantly to me is the price, I hate anything being expensive and certainly would not waste my money on a music magazine if it's expensive.

5) What images would you like to see in a music magazine?
Like I said before something interesting and a bit different, I want to look and it and think "wow and I need to get this as the image is so great." I like long shots if I'm honest as I like the background and to have a look at the surroundings.

6) Personally, what is your favorite name out of Fresh, Instant and Trend?
I like instant as it's catchy and relates to a specific genre of music.

7) What sort of articles do you like to read in a magazine and why?
I like to read interviews that ask unique questions that you didn't know about, like personal. I also enjoy reading things about concerts and interesting facts about other artists and what they are doing in the music world. Love a bit of a funny story as well, things that have ended in a disaster but in a funny way.

8) What type of artist would you like to read about?
I like bands if I am honest, but in general I like ones that don't follow the crowd and create a new style. They need to be hip with a catchy name. The name of the artists is key!

Monday, 4 March 2013

Character Profile 3

Name: Emily Campbell
Gender: Female
Age: 19

Music: Pink, Mcfly, Fun, Ed Sheeran, Olly Murs, Maroon 5, Fall Out Boy

I thought I would analyse one more female I think I will focus more on them when it comes to creating my music magazine. However this time I have went for an older one as its important that I engage all of my target audience therefore her opinion will be very important to me.

1) What music magazines do you normally read?
Normally I like music that is new and current therefore Q is a one I often enjoy reading however I wouldn't say I read them on a regular basis.
2) What music genre would you like the read about and why?
I often read just about anything that is interesting however if I'm honest I do like the chart music as I like the know what is in at the minute. For instance Jake Bugg is new and coming into the charts I love hearing things about him and other newly found artists.

3) What do you look for on a front page?
I look for a big image with text that stands out but doesn't look messy, I like to instantly look at the front cover and know what genre it is. Colours are important as well, because some colours just don't look right on a front cover like yellow and orange. You should stay away from them!

4) What would make you buy a music magazine?
Firstly the price is me is important as some magazines are just way to expensive for what you are buying! But also the genre of the magazine and the artists it features as I like the artist or even the band to have a slightly different look about them. They need to have something a little different and their own individual style. Like Katy Perry she goes against everything and is just her own artist.

5) What images would you like to see in a music magazine?
I would like to see a big image that attracts me straight away towards it. Possibly a female who is a role model and has a unique image and the artist to be doing an action and focusing on a task.

6) Personally, what is your favorite name out of Fresh, Instant and Trend?
I like trend and also Instant they both seem to be music magazine like.

7) What sort of articles do you like to read in a magazine and why?
I like reading interviews as they are easy to read and enjoyable, I also like reading overviews of artists that I haven't heard of as they keep me informed of what is going on. I like the article to have a set layout and to use spacing and lines well as I don't want loads of text thrown together when reading an article, I would say around 40% of the double page spread needs to be text the rest should be focused on image.

8) What type of  artist would you like to read about?
I would like to read about new artists definitely someone who is just a bit different from the rest of them we have a Lady Gaga and we don't need another one.

Sunday, 3 March 2013

Character Profile 2

Name: Anna Mather
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Music: Olly Murs, Nicki Minaji, The Script, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry

To further enhance my research I thought it would be best to ask Anna, for a different opinion she is slightly older than Hannah and has a different music taste and therefore I thought it would be good to get an overall opinion. I asked Anna the same questions as Hannah to help me get a focused well structured answer conclude.

1) What music magazines do you normally read?

I don't often buy them if I'm honest. However if I was going to it would definitely be Q and also Billboard I know it's American but it's a one I have come across and liked the look of. They are modern up to date magazines that keep me informed with all the latest gossip and therefore I would enjoy reading them.

2) What music genre would you like to read about and why?
I love chart music!! Anything that is in the charts and on the front page of magazines I love. I love feeling of being up to date and in the know. So basically my music genre is current and new things that are in the top 20 as I listen to that often on the radio and watch the videos on the tv

3) What do you look for on a front page?
I love seeing celebrities looking glam and gorgeous. I like seeing someone who looks amazing and that I could look up to! Like Katy Perry or Taylor Swift, they often are going something unusual and suited to their personality I quite like that too!

4) What would make you buy a music magazine?
The price of course, the image and the colours! It needs to attract me and grab my attention I like the image to be big and feature a celeb looking at the camera and in some sort of clothes that relate to my age. They need to be young and interesting otherwise I would just put the magazine down.

5) What images would you like the see in the magazine?
The bigger the better! I like colorful ones of person that reflect my youth. They have to be creative and well thought out, possibly action shots or concerts as I like to go to them. I mean who could forget Gagas meat dress? Things like that interest me however maybe not that far!

6) Personally, What is your favorite name out of Fresh, Instant and Trend?
I like fresh and instant they both stand out to me and show something different. They both reflect the modern young society and that is what interests me the most.

7) What sort of articles do you like to read in a magazine and why?

I love interviews about celebrities as i'm nosy and like to know the gossip I also like knowing things that others don't so like the exclusive thing really interests me or articles about winning tickets to a gig or funny stories about concerts and they entertain and humor me.

8) What type of artist would you like to read about and why?
Young women like Taylor Swift inspire me, I like the natural look of them and they create a role model for me as they aren't overly edited or need loads of make up to look good! I like an artist would makes their own songs and has some originality  A bit like Gabrielle Aplin she is brand new to the charts and brings something different and has a beautiful voice.

Character Profile 1

Name: Hannah Stephen
Gender: Female

Age: 16
Music: Mumford & Sons, Jessie J, Noah and the Whale, REM, Oasis

To start off my research I thought it would be best to ask Hannah some questions about music magazines and what interests her the most when reading them.

1) What music magazines do you normally read?
I often like any, however I do enjoy reading Q as it's a mixture of all the music tastes and it always has an eye catching picture on the front to grab my attention. If i'm honest I don't normally buy music magzaine but if had the right picture on the front I would be tempted to buy it.

2) What music genre would you like to read about and why?
I love indie! But however no matter I still love reading about chart music and it's always there and memorable. Its often playing on the radio and TV constantly therefore I can't help but like it, it's on the front of newspapers you just can't get away from it. One of my favorite chart artists is Jessie J, I'm going to see her in October she is abit different and edgy and that is why I like her.

3) What do you look for on a front page?
It needs to grab my attention or I won't be it. I like originality, something different possibly some bright colours or an interesting picture that fills up the whole page! No white spaces, I like the page to be filled but not in my face.

4) What would make you buy a music magazine?
If it had the latest gossip about a band or artist that would certainly grab my attention, I want to feel as if I'm getting something out of this magazine and extra bit of information that only I would know from reading this magzaine. Colours and images play a big part in it for me.

5) What images would you like to see in a music magazine?
I would like ones that represent my age and look, Modern and possibly more girls as I like to see what they are wearing and try to use their style! I like close ups and also long shots where within the image it looks as if the artist is doing something. For basically all of them I like them to have an artist in as I like to see them and it makes it more personal.

6) Personally, what is your favorite name out of Fresh, Instant and Trend?

I like instant as it sounds modern and something different it would be the one I would go for. I believe Trend sounds more like a fashion magazine if you ask me.

7) What sort of articles do you like to read in a magazine?
Anything that is personal and exclusive. I don't like boring questions such as "when is your next song out" I want to learn something from the magazine. I enjoy reading about interviews as they are easy to read and they are often a bit more personal and I feel they engage the audience more.

8) What type of artist would you like to read about and why?
I love new bands and artists the key thing for me, is originality I love them to have their own opinion and voice. Examples include things such as Lady Gaga, and Jessie J and Mumford and sons. All these are different and don't just follow the normal pattern of artist they like to do it their own way and that is what I love!!

Bright Idea!

Thinking Time...

Today, I spent the day thinking about how I could make my blog look good but also do some detailed target audience research. Then I came up with the brilliant idea of focusing on specific people from my target audience and creating a character profile for each and asking them open questions based on the music magazine I am trying to create. I will focus of 5 in detail who fit my music magazine criteria and create a profile for each.
